1) Tuesday, September 14th - Boat trip to Tihany
More information about Tihany:
http://tihanyinfo.com/en/
https://theculturetrip.com/europe/hungary/articles/the-top-10-things-to-do-in-tihany/2) Wednesday, September 15th - All day excursion to Budapest
A one-day excursion to the capital of Hungary, Budapest will take place on 15 September 2021.
We will depart from the symposium’s venue - 8621 Zamardi, Rakoczi utca 38 - at eight o’clock in the morning. After arriving to Budapest through the motorway M7 we will first visit the Buda Castle Quarter, an emblematic site of the capital. The Buda Castle was the Hungarian king’s residence for centuries, living thriving as well as stormy times in the history of Hungary, remaining today a pleasant living quarter with a historic atmosphere.
In a two-hour walk we will visit the Buda Castle Quarter’s main attractions: the castle, the architectural masterpieces of Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion.
The Matthias Church - or the Church of Our Lady - is a neo-Gothic church located in the Holy Trinity Square, which received its final form at the end of the 19th century. The two weddings of King Matthias, and the crowning of two reigning couples, Franz Joseph I and Elizabeth, as well as Charles IV and Zita of the Habsburg dynasty took place in this church.
The Fisherman’s Bastion is a neo-Romanesque landmark which offers magnificent views on the banks of the Danube and the Pest side of the city. The seven towers of this spectacular structure symbolise the seven Hungarian tribes arriving to the Carpathian Basin in 895.
After visiting the Buda Castle District we will continue our trip towards another symbolic place of the capital: the Heroes’s Square. This square is a national memorial place situated on the Pest side of the city. The square is surrounded by the City Park, a lung of the city. At Heroes’ Square we will see the Millenium Monument which was built to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin.
Two grandiose museums - the Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery – were built in this square.
The Museum of Fine Arts is reputed to be one of Europe’s most prominent museums. It has an extensive artwork collection including masterpieces from ancient times till the end of the eighteenth century. The Art Gallery located on the other side of the square gives place to contemporary art exhibitions.
We will also go through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Andrássy Avenue - called ’the Champs-Élysées of Budapest’ - which was originally built to connect the centre of the city with the City Park. This elegant boulevard lined by shops, restaurants, beautiful villas gives place to the Neo-Renaissance palace of the Opera House designed by the great architect Miklós Ybl.
The trip will end at the conference venue at Zamardi at about six o’clock in the evening.
We are looking forward to meet you on 15 September!
