The Hungarian authority now forwards consignments of plant products (food) to the country of destination for physical checks

In the case of consignment of plant products (intended for food use) originating from third countries, the Hungarian authority will no longer carry out physical checks in Hungary, but will forward the consignments to the country of destination. For this reason, operators are obliged to indicate the control point when importing into the European Union. Failure to provide this information can lead to a significant increase in administrative time.
The new control procedure applies to the importation into the Union of plant products (intended for food use) from third countries covered by Commission Implementing Regulations (EU) 2019/1793 and (EU) 2020/1158. The competent plant protection and soil conservation authority of the Government Office will after documentary check forward consignments for physical check to the country of destination  if they are not being released for free circulation in Hungary. Sampling and laboratory testing will take place in the country of destination.
For smooth administration, it is important that the operator responsible for the consignment not only fills in point I.4. in the TRACES system, in the Common Health Entry Documents (CHED-D), but also indicates the designated control point (I.20) of the country of destination. If this is not done, the authority will contact the operator responsible for the consignment, which can significantly increase the administration time of the delivery process.
The consignment must be under continuous customs supervision during transit. The Hungarian competent authority will always request confirmation of its arrival from the country of destination within 15 days.
